Alternative Budget Working Group
The Alternative Budget Working Group is currently working on a collective research and writing project to propose an alternative budget for free higher education in NYC. Partnering closely with the Free University (freeuniversity.org), we are working to present an alternative vision of what higher education could be in New York; this of course entails a radically different conception of how such education could be funded.
Counter-Kroll Report Work Group
This working group is collaboratively researching and writing a response to the Kroll Report. The Kroll Report was the product of an allegedly “independent” inquiry commissioned by the CUNY administration to investigate the CUNY student protests of November 2011. The report is full of false data and unabashedly criminalizes student protests. It argues for increased policing and securitization of CUNY campuses. We reject this report’s findings and are writing a counter-report to contest it.
COCAL 2014
The Coalition for Contingent Academic Labor (COCAL) hosts a biennial international conference which brings together educators and teachers unions from across the US, Canada and Mexico to discuss tactics and strategies for fighting against the precaritization of academic labor. The Adjunct Project is working closely with members of the Professional Staff Congress (PSC) to organize the COCAL’s 2014 conference at the CUNY Graduate Center.
Restructuring & Resistance Working Group
This working group was formed at the February 15th, Adjunct Project planning meeting. It’s goal is to plan and orchestrate student response to the Administration’s plans for a top-down restructuring of the Graduate Center.
Platform Building and Political Education Working Group
This working group was formed at the February 15th, Adjunct Project planning meeting. It’s goal is to organize political education events and political platform building.
Other on-going projects that the Adjunct Project Co-coordinators are actively involved with include the Free University NYC (Freeuniversity.org), Occupy Sandy recovery work, anti-gentrification work with the Crown Heights Neighborhood , New York Students Risings (NYSR), The New York City Geographical Expedition and Institute (NYCGEI), the Anti-Capitalist Strategies and Imagines seminar, as well as co-sponsoring and organizing numerous educational and activist/organizing events around NYC.
