Ramadan Celebration & Respond: Crisis Translation Afghan Team Economic Justice Mutual Aid Event
April 6, 2022 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
The CUNY Adjunct Project is a proud co-organizer and co-sponsor of the Ramadan Celebration & Respond: Crisis Translation Afghan Team Economic Justice Mutual Aid Event. Read more from Respond: Crisis Translation below and register for the event here.
Join us to celebrate Ramadan with the Respond Afghan Languages Team!
Enjoy performances by Afghan poet, Zohra Saed, singer, Marina Doost, artist Nooria Alam, as they join us to celebrate this important day. Browse and purchase art from our Respond community, and allies, including celebrated artist, Molly Crapbapple, as we launch our art auction fundraiser, and we are excited to have racial justice and civil rights activist activist Linda Sarsour will join us, and share a few words.
Learn about the amazing and life-critical work the Afghan Languages Team members are doing, and show your support of both these Afghan language practitioners and Afghan asylum seekers as they resettle across the United States and Canada.
Our panel discussion will be about racism and xenophobia that cannot be denied as we see Ukrainians being welcomed, while Black and brown refugees are not. The panel will be moderated by Jamila Hammami. They will be joined by Arash Azizzada, co-founder of Afghans For A Better Tomorrow, Taisha Saintil, of Haitian Bridge Alliance, and Immigration Attorney Steve Sacco.
- On April 6th from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. EST
- Join via the Zoom link provided after registration
The event is free, but donations are welcome! Give what you can, every dollar and all proceeds from this event, including the art auction, will go directly towards paying Afghan interpreters and translators at Respond, and allow them to continue providing language support to Afghan asylum seekers.
